PLEASE VOTE THIS TUESDAY NOV. 4 "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God." Rom.13:1

Too many Christians see government as an evil invention of sinful man that should be avoided or just tolerated. Some even think it is sinful to participate in government affairs. I am told that because of this misunderstanding (or laziness?) 33 million professing Christians did not vote in the 2000 presidential election. How can this be? Paul said we must submit to the governments that exist because they have been established by God Himself!

The early disciples also felt this inner conflict when they asked Jesus about their responsibility to pay taxes. Jesus told them, "Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar..." Matt22:21. Paul agrees with Christ when he goes on to say, "This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing." Rom.13:6. Remember the disciples were living under the Roman government when these things were written!

Yes, the governments are made up of people who are sinners, but so is the world! If sinless perfection were required then no one would be eligible to serve. Brethren, God has graciously given sinful mankind a servant called government! This is His way of keeping anarchy and chaos from ultimately having it's way with people. Since God has ordained the authorities that exist, be assured that He will hold them accountable for He is Lord of all 1Tim.6:15.

So what about Christians who live in America? Have we not been blessed with the privilege to choose by voting our leaders and public servants? Do we not have the liberty to take a stand for righteousness and voice our opinions on social issues that promote morality and justice? I believe that voting is much more than a privilege for Christians, it is our duty! With freedom and blessing comes responsibility to God! Can you imagine us complaining to God in judgment about the direction of our government in life and hearing Him ask why WE did not get involved and vote?

We have, in prayer and the ballot box, a God given opportunity to be salt and light in the world for His glory and bring blessing to our people! Understand that this is a very crucial election! Not only do we face terrorism, but at stake are serious foundational moral and social issues like freedom of speech and religion, the family, marriage, abortion and the appointment of supreme and federal court judges that will direct the future of America for years to come! Please pray for all our elected leaders in America and those currently in position of authority throughout the world 1Tim.2:1-2. Get to the polls and prayerfully cast a vote for God's righteousness and comfort your heart with this understanding, "that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and He gives them to anyone He wishes." Dan.4:24
