The Corner Men

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing. 2 Tim. 4:7-8

Have you ever watched a boxing match? Before the fighter even enters the ring, the corner men are advising him and offering encouragement. As the fight continues, these men watch for mistakes, give helpful instructions and replenish the fighter between rounds. If the corner does not do their job, the fighter is at a big disadvantage and could lose the bout!

Paul saw himself and all believers as victors! But he would be the first to admit that we do not endure this struggle alone in 1Cor. 9:24-27, he describes the Christian life in terms of an intense physical competition. He had many friends working in his corner offering support, encouragement and prayers.

As fellow Christians, we must understand the serious nature of our opponent and spiritual battle we are in 1Pet. 5:8, Eph. 6:10-11. We also need to remember that none of us will win this battle alone. There is a multitude cheering us on at all times Heb. 12:1-2, All Christians are battling in this "good fight" and need devoted corner men Phil. 3:17-18. Let's fulfill our obligation to be in our brother and sister's corner as well Heb. 10:24-25
