WHAT TO EXPECT

AT OUR SERVICE YOU WILL BE GREETED BY A FAMILY OF CHRIST-LOVING BELIEVERS FROM ALL WALKS OF LIFE.

Bible classes are offered from 10:00 to 10:45 for all ages. The service lasts about an hour beginning at 11:00am with a song calling us to be seated for Announcements and updates to our Prayer Care list and upcoming events. We will have an Opening Prayer and a Scripture Reading followed by congregational acapella singing of Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs of praise.

Our hearts will then focus on the Lord’s Supper with unleavened bread and grape juice. All visiting Christians are welcomed to share in this Communion. At this time we will pass a plate for members to give Contributions, which is a cheerful, free will Offering. Place your Visitor Card in this plate. You will hear an encouraging sermon from God’s Word with an invitation for Prayer or an opportunity to obey the Gospel in Baptism.

Please see our Minister after the service if you have questions or want to schedule a personal Bible study. We hope to see you soon!

"At High Ridge, filler text with sentences of things you should know. Filler text with sentences of things you should know. Filler text with sentences of things you should know. Filler text with sentences."

Mission Statement (From Front of Church):

"Seeking an all-powerful holy God who lovingly seeks an eternal personal relationship with everyone."

NOTES ON DESIGN OF THIS:

Nondenominational.

Make it feel like it’s a family. Because that’s who we are. Because we’re the household of God.

Fellowship. Welcoming.

Don’t need too much noise or pictures. Easy feeling. Easy to navigate.

Calm and warm, not bright and fuzzy feeling. Less very bold more inviting and calm. Doesn’t have to be too entertaining or exciting, just spiritually rich and to illustrate the spiritual richness of the church. Some churches you go to their website and you see a lot of people. It looks really busy and some websites show their band first to show that they’re exciting. (Acapella singing).

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU COME:

Friendly atmosphere of course.

To commune with Jesus Christ.

That’s the main reason we assemble- to commune with the body and blood of Jesus Christ. There is a lot that takes place- partaking of the body and blood of jesus- we’re doing this together. Paul talks to the church of Corinth about not having their hearts in it- their hearts were very bad toward each other- “you are not discerning the body of christ”. One of you are despising the other. Had a love feast, say they’re going to remember the Lord together. Would take unleavened bread and share it together. It was supposed to be “discerning the body”. Members are slices of the one loaf of bread.

Won’t teach anything if we don’t have scripture for it- a verse within its context.

The rich people were showing up were eating food and drinking wine and some people who couldn’t get there didn’t have enough. One guy was stuffed, and the guy right next to him was empty and hungry. They weren’t waiting for each other. The bigger context is they were proud of their blessings. And the attitude wasn’t right.

To commune together, remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, and to strengthen our identity as members of his body.

If yoi’re not discerning the body of Christ you’re eating and drinking and have hatred going on. When people feel like they’re being betrayed or don’t have enough. If you’re hungry- eat at home before you come.

“When you come together in one place as a church, wait for one another if you’re going to eat. But tarry for one another so you don’t come under condemnation.” (Corinthians 11).

What to expect about the service:

We invite believers to partake in communion with us.

What is a believer?

Believers that know who Jesus is and they’ve committed themselves to him on his terms. Repented of their sins, confessed his name, and are immersed in communion with them. Don’t have closed communion.

Acapella singing, praying, communing, and a message from the Bible.

Psalms hymns and spiritual songs, speaking to one another in psalm hymns and spiritual psalms (Ephesians 5:18-21)

How do I fill myself with the spirit? Speaking to one another in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your hearts towards the Lord. Salo = “making melody”, “pluck the cord strings of an instrument” saying “pluck the cord strings of your heart”

Colossians 3:15-17 “Forgive each other, put on love which binds everything together rin perfect harmony. An dlet the peace of christ rule in your hearts to which indeed you were called in one body and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly. Teaching and admonishing one another in all wisom, singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs to God.’ (Parralel to being filled with the spirit).   Be filled with the word of Christ- that’s how we are filled with the spirit. “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.”

So we take singing seriously, and it’s all about the Holy Spirit and the word of Christ and when we’re singing, we are being filled with the word of Christ and these stories and these psalms. You’re being filled with the spirit and come under the Spirit’s control. It’s awesome.

DON’T NEED THAT ON THE WEBSITE. We don’t have instrumental music- there is a simplicity of worship that most people enjoy singing and can teach and learn from each other, and we understand what’s being said and going on and we don’t have to have any special talent for it. It can go through their minds on a daily basis and can remember it. When you incorporate instrumental music it takes away from the simplicity and makes sure no one feels left out. We believe that the assembly has specific instructions. Anybody can worship God. It can be very simple.

Singing, praying preaching, it’s all about getting back to the word of God. That’s how you are filled with the Spirit. By speaking to one another. Even by singing our praise to God, we are doing that in each other’s presence, speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. That’s what we’re doing together.

High Ridge Church History:

Danny came here in 91 started preaching.

Expanded to second building in 2007 because the congregation grew.

From Danny:

In 1968 several Christian families in the High Ridge area began worshiping  in their homes or the High Ridge Community Building. As they grew in numbers they made a prayerful decision to get a loan and build the A-Frame Little Church In The Woods.

In 1969 High Ridge was seen as a place way out in the country with very little development. Old Highway 30 was a 2-lane, narrow, winding road and the only connection in the area to St Louis County.

The young architect designed the building to be rustic and economic to build and would have the feeling of a Church In The Woods! A contractor put up the A-frame structure, the main plumbing and wiring. But at least 40% of the work was completed by the members freely donating their time and talents. It took 3 years to finish the project.

Since that time the members have been faithful in planting the Seed Of the Kingdom, which is the Gospel of Christ. The lord has been faithful all these years to give the increase!

(CAN ADD ABOUT EXPANSION IF NEEDED)

Points about the church:

  • Emphasize the simplicity of it

  • Less distractions

  • You get to know people

  • Nobody feels put down b/c of talents

  • Simply meeting with like believers and learning the bible + sharing life together

  • Simply knowing Christ and knowing each other

  • Simply focusing on Christ and sharing life together

  • Getting into the nitty gritty of the gospel and learning the bible together

From Content Meeting:

Try to create a loving, learning, family relationship here through everything we do. A loving, learning, family relationship of believers. A church for everyone.- a church for outcasts.

People are probably more open here and it feels like you’ve known these people forever.
